Rotherham United staged a fight back against a second successive relegation last season and managed to finish one place and two points above the drop zone. Manager Mick Harford left in December after a dire run of form and Welshman Alan Knill took charge for the second time in 12 months. His 25 match spell in charge produced eight wins, nine draws and eight defeats as the Millers edged to safety.
There has been plenty of transfer activity at Milmoor this summer, notably between former manager Ronnie Moore's new club Tranmere Rovers and Rotherham.
Defender Ian Sharps, who spent his entire career thus far at Prenton Park, signed a two year contract at Milmoor. The Warrington born player appeared 186 times for Rovers since signing professional terms in 1998. Rotherham midfielders John Mullin and Paul McLaren have rejoined Moore at Tranmere, while striker Delroy Facey has moved in the opposite direction.
Like Sharps, Facey has also signed a two year contract at Rotherham following one season at Tranmere where he scored nine goals. Further attacking prowess arrives in winger Richie Partridge, who signed a two year contract following his release from neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.
Keen to shore up his leaky defence, Knill signed Derby County defender Pablo Mills, who had loan spells at Walsall and MK Dons last season, on a free transfer and he also signed Hull City's Scott Wiseman on a six month loan deal. However, veteran defender Scott Minto has retired after failing to recover from an Achilles injury.
Verdict Mick Harford's spell in charge last season was almost disastrous but new boss Alan Knill may also find himself in a relegation scrap. The 4/7 price as relegation favourites is not good value but the Millers could well slip into League Two. |
